Trenton Reed: Q&A With Heat Checking Gaming First-Round Pick Sawc

In today’s post, I sit down for an interview with “Sawc”. You may remember Sawc from the season four NBA 2K League draft where he was taken 47th overall by Gen.G. Now he is off to new beginnings after being selected by Heat Check Gaming with the sixteenth overall pick on Saturday night. We talk about his first season in the NBA 2K League, some of the things that he learned about the NBA 2K League, and much more.

Q: What did you learn most during your first season in the NBA 2K league?

A: “I learned to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations. You’re going to have tough conversations and be in some tough situations. You have to be able to talk through and get through it as a team. The end goal is worth it.”

Q: Starting off last year as the sixth man for Gen.G, and then eventually entering the starting lineup, how were you able to become a crucial part of Gen.G’s success during the second half of the season?

A: I played with different types of guards in pro-am, from pass heavy to score heavy. After one game, I have a feel on how to adjust accordingly. Chemistry on and off court played a major impact as well. Trusting in my teammates and being able to voice my opinion helped a lot.

Q: What was your favorite pregame meal while you were with Gen.G?

A: Oh for sure I had to stop at Tin Roof and get some wings. If I got a Chipotle bowl, double chicken, rice, red sauce, cheese, guac, sour cream, then red sauce again on top.  In general, my mom always got me a big bag of Takis and double gulp with Mountain Dew

Q: What is your favorite pregame song?

A: No doubt, Whitney Houston – I Will Always Love You. I listen to smooth songs, usually oldies or some R&B. I like to be calm going into battle, it helps keep my mind clear.

Q: What are some things you are looking forward to this season after being selected by Heat Check Gaming in the first round?

A: I’m excited to play alongside BSmoove again, we started catching momentum at the end of last season and it just wouldn’t be right to not run it back Turbo!

Q: What is some advice that you would give to aspiring NBA 2K League professionals?

A: The process isn’t easy and there isn’t an official blueprint on getting drafted. The advice I would give them truthfully: just be yourself. People like you for you. And always stay faithful to your craft. Stay realistic with yourself, everything always works out in the end.

Q: What was your biggest motivation to make the NBA 2K League again?

A: My pops still has a job. My dad waking up every day, going to work, hustling, and grinding for my family is motivation. Making my mom smile is one of my favorite things to do in the world and nothing can replace that. My angels that can’t be here physically but here spiritually, this is for them. I play to represent God, my family, my last name, my island, my people. #owowo.

Q: What are some hobbies that you have outside of NBA2K?

A: I like to just be around my family and friends. I always go to my sibling’s games or school events. I hoop and I love to bowl. I’m not the best bowler or anything like that, but it’s fun having friendly competition with the bros. Or going to the movies with homegirls, watching a chick flick or something like that. I can always make the best out of something and make it fun.

Q: You’re headed to Miami after being selected in the first round with the sixteenth overall pick by Heat Check Gaming, describe what was going through your mind after being selected?

A: I think the entire community saw my reaction LOL. A lot of emotions was running through my mind. I was so excited, so hyped. I’m just so blessed for the opportunity, for people believing in me, for my support system, literally I just so blessed. We All We Got.

Q: Do you have any final thoughts as we wrap up this Q&A?

A: Thanks brother Trenton for this interview, I just want to thank you for your support and everything you do for our community. You are up next.
