Storylines:

AuthenticAfrican Back at Center; Vandi Still in Charge

One year after acquiring former Knicks Gaming big man, Goofy, in exchange for a pair of first-round selections, Grizz Gaming netted three 2021 draft picks (14, 16, 36), sending Goofy to Blazer5 Gaming in a three-team deal that also included NetsGC. Grizz Gaming used their new wealth of draft capital to fill out the roster around Vandi and AuthenticAfrican, drafting Spartxn, Chess, FollowTheGod, and DDouble.

Spartxn had an impressive rookie season last year for Mavs Gaming, but fell victim to the retainment process. We saw just how much he was able to improve his stock with solid league performance, going from a fourth-round selection in 2020 to a first-round selection in 2021. Spartxn will likely be slotted next to AuthenticAfrican in the frontcourt, making for a quality four-five punch in Memphis.

Chess is another player that saw his draft stock improve from last season to now. In 2020 he found himself undrafted, but took advantage of an opportunity with Nets Gaming Crew as a replacement player, eventually parlaying it into becoming a 2021 first-round pick. Chess will join Vandi in the backcourt as the team’s starting shooting guard.

With their final pair of picks, Grizz Gaming selected former Hawks Talon player, FollowTheGod, to man the lockdown defender position, and DDouble, who was slated to join the team for his fourth season. After the NBA 2K League recently announced a suspension for DDouble, Grizz Gaming opted to bring back the team’s former sharpshooter, JRod, as a replacement choice. Now, Memphis heads into season four with a familiar duo leading the way in Vandi and AuthenticAfrican, surrounded by a new-look supporting cast.
